Left 4 Dead
WR: 45:27

Released in 2008, Left 4 Dead is a cooperative (4 players) first-person shooter video game. It was developed by Turtle Rock Studios, which was purchased by Valve Corporation during development.

Set during the aftermath of an apocalyptic pandemic, the game pits its four protagonists—dubbed the "Survivors"—against hordes of the infected. There are four game modes: a single-player mode in which allied characters are controlled by AI; a four-player, co-op campaign mode; an eight-player online versus mode; and a four-player survival mode. In all modes, an artificial intelligence (AI), dubbed the "Director", controls level pacing and item placements, in an attempt to create a dynamic experience and increase replay value.

Speed running overview

When it comes to running this game you have to know your version numbers. Early versions of this game had loads of bugs that allowed you to complete the levels alone a lot easier than what is possible these days. But also later versions have more levels in the form of additional downloadable content, two new campaigns to be exact.

The current most recognized full game run is the one on SDA done by "Tristan 'Serial Gamer' Languebien". This run completed all the main campaigns in hard difficulty, single player and splitting segments between levels. (IL) Since this was done on a really old version of the game, a lot of the bugs seen in the run aren't unfortunately available in the most recent version.

At the start of 2012 there has been new activity towards Left4Dead running by doing the missing DLC content 'Crash course' and 'The sacrifice'. This forces the use of a lot more recent game version. Currently there is a team of four: "Freezard, AdamAK, oasiz and flicky" doing 4 player co-op runs and doing one campaign in one go as opposed to the older run that ran levels individually alone. Due to the fixed bugs, a lot of the strategies had to be revised and playing with four players does change the AI quite a bit but it also opens many doors for potential tricks or route changes.
